Tim Burton’s Alice in Underland
I was more than a little hesitant going into this film. I mean.. come on.. Alice in Wonderland? When the credits rolled though, I can honestly say I enjoyed it. The scenery and the costumes (both real and CGI) blended well, but didn’t over-power the storyline. The music was colorful and vibrant yet not once did it detract from what was on-screen. The acting was decent although I doubt we’ll see any award nominations come from this cast. Burton took a well loved story and carefully crafted it into his own creation.
*Spoiler*
It’s actually a sequel, not a re-imagining of the original. In that aspect we see all the same characters, but in slightly less positive light. Burton went so far as to tell us that the first time around Alice actually got the name wrong. I thought that was an interesting twist. Bottom line, if you liked the original story, or any of the later variations, you’ll probably like this one too. Depp was great, as was Bonham-Carter, but I think Glover took the spotlight as the Red Queen’s side-kick.
